Terms of Service

Rules and guidelines for using Synapse responsibly.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Synapse ("Service," "App," "we," "us," or "our"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you don't agree, please don't use Synapse.

2. Eligibility

2.1 Age Requirement

Synapse is designed for users of all ages:

  • • All ages welcome: No minimum age requirement
  • • Users under 13: Must have verifiable parental or guardian consent before creating an account
  • • Users under 18: Parental or guardian consent recommended
  • • Safe environment: Active content moderation ensures age-appropriate content for all users

2.2 Account Responsibility

  • • You're responsible for maintaining account security
  • • You must provide accurate information
  • • One person per account (no shared accounts)
  • • You're responsible for all activity under your account

3. User Content

3.1 Your Content

You retain ownership of content you create (ideas, comments, projects). However, by posting content, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to:

  • • Host, store, and display your content
  • • Share content with other users as per your privacy settings
  • • Use content to improve our services

3.2 Content Standards

You agree NOT to post content that:

  • Violates laws or regulations
  • Infringes intellectual property rights
  • Contains hate speech, harassment, or bullying
  • Promotes violence or illegal activities
  • Contains nudity or sexual content
  • Is spam, scams, or misleading information
  • Contains malware or harmful code
  • Impersonates others

3.3 Content Moderation

  • • We use AI (OpenAI Moderation API) to automatically detect inappropriate content
  • • We reserve the right to remove content that violates these Terms
  • • Repeated violations may result in account suspension or termination
  • • You can appeal content removal decisions

4. Acceptable Use

4.1 You Agree To:

  • Use the Service for lawful purposes only
  • Respect other users and their content
  • Provide accurate information
  • Keep your password secure
  • Report violations to us

4.2 You Agree NOT To:

  • Hack, scrape, or reverse engineer the Service
  • Create fake accounts or automate actions
  • Harass, bully, or threaten other users
  • Sell, rent, or transfer your account
  • Collect user data without permission
  • Interfere with Service operation
  • Use the Service to spam or advertise
  • Circumvent security measures

5. Intellectual Property

Our Rights

Synapse, including its design, code, logo, and features, is owned by us and protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws.

Your License

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes.

Restrictions

You may NOT:

  • • Copy, modify, or create derivative works
  • • Sell, rent, or sublicense the App
  • • Remove copyright notices
  • • Use our trademarks without permission

6. Privacy and Data

Your use is also governed by our Privacy Policy.

We collect information as described in our Privacy Policy, including:

  • • Account information
  • • Content you create
  • • Usage data
  • • Device information

AI Content Moderation: By using Synapse, you acknowledge that content may be analyzed by OpenAI's Moderation API to detect policy violations.

7. Account Termination

Your Right to Delete

You can delete your account anytime through Settings > Account > Delete Account.

Our Right to Terminate

We may suspend or terminate your account if you:

  • • Violate these Terms
  • • Engage in illegal activity
  • • Harm other users
  • • Create security risks

Effect of Termination

  • • Access revoked immediately
  • • Most content deleted in 30 days
  • • Legal data may be retained

8. Disclaimers

SYNAPSE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, including:

  • • Merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose
  • • Non-infringement
  • • Availability or uptime guarantees
  • • Error-free operation

We don't guarantee the accuracy, quality, or legality of user-generated content. We're not responsible for third-party services (Supabase, OpenAI, Google Sign-In).

9. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR:

  • • Indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
  • • Loss of profits, data, or goodwill
  • • Service interruptions or errors
  • • User content or conduct
  • • Third-party actions

Our total liability to you for all claims shall not exceed $100 USD or the amount you paid us in the last 12 months (whichever is greater).

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from:

  • • Your violation of these Terms
  • • Your content
  • • Your use of the Service
  • • Your violation of others' rights

11. Dispute Resolution

Informal Resolution

Contact us first at support@mysynapses.com to resolve disputes informally.

Arbitration

If informal resolution fails, disputes will be resolved through binding arbitration (not court), except for small claims court, intellectual property claims, or injunctive relief.

Class Action Waiver: You agree to resolve disputes individually, not as part of a class action.

12. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We'll notify you via in-app notification, email, or notice on our website.

Your continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

13. Third-Party Services

We use: Supabase (database and authentication), OpenAI (content moderation), and Google (sign-in authentication).

You're responsible for complying with third-party terms when using their services through our App.

14. Apple App Store Terms

These Terms are between you and us, not Apple. Key points:

  • • Apple is not responsible for the App or its content
  • • License limited to use on Apple devices you own or control
  • • We, not Apple, provide maintenance and support
  • • We, not Apple, handle warranty, claims, and liability
  • • Apple is a third-party beneficiary and can enforce these Terms

15. DMCA Copyright Policy

If you believe content infringes your copyright, send a notice to legal@mysynapses.com

Include:

  • • Your contact information
  • • Description of copyrighted work
  • • Location of infringing content
  • • Statement of good faith belief
  • • Statement under penalty of perjury
  • • Your signature

16. Miscellaneous

  • • Entire Agreement: These Terms and our Privacy Policy constitute the entire agreement
  • • Severability: If any provision is invalid, the rest remain in effect
  • • No Waiver: Our failure to enforce any right doesn't waive that right
  • • Assignment: You may not assign these Terms; we may assign to any successor
  • • Force Majeure: We're not liable for delays due to circumstances beyond our control
